Research Project

The effect of previous active tuberculosis on cardiometabolic profiles of people with HIV at an urban HIV clinic in Uganda

My research seeks to understand whether previous TB affects one’s cardiometabolic profiles and, therefore, alter one’s future cardiovascular risk. This is at the backdrop of evidence linking previous TB to incident major adverse cardiovascular events among TB survivors. The study will be conducted among people with HIV who, for various reasons, have a heightened risk for CVD.

Research Significance

The study will reveal if there is an association between previous TB and dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure, hyperglycemia and obesity. This can inform future prospective studies to evaluate the efficacy of interventions for lowering CVD risk among TB survivors.
