Research Project

Perceptions of individuals along the biotechnological development pipeline on increasing biomedical device innovation in Peru

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the disparities in access to testing, diagnostic and other biomedical devices between high income countries and low- and middle-income countries was made even more evident. Many countries, including Peru, are interested in building the capacity to strengthen the biotechnology sector within their own countries to be able to manufacture their own biomedical devices and tools.

Research Significance

My research project will be interviewing various people along the biomedical device development pipeline including (but not limited to): biomedical engineering researchers, university researchers, biotechnology company employees, and government officials. Based on the analysis of these interviews, we will make recommendations for Peru to build capacity for biomedical device innovation and development.
