Implementing and Evaluating an Antenatal High- Risk Pregnancy Intervention Bundle in Rural Nepal
High-risk pregnancy (HRP) disproportionately contributes to maternal mortality around the world and especially in rural Nepal. This project, an antenatal care bundle, aims to improve the early identification and coordinated management of HRP in low-resource areas. The intervention will be piloted at a health center in the rural municipality of Melamchi. It has two primary objectives: 1) implementing an antenatal risk scoring tool to identify patients with HRP and 2) establishing telemedicine appointments to connect those patients with maternal health providers at Dhulikhel Hospital. Afterwards, the intervention will be evaluated for feasibility, impact, scalability, and sustainability.
Research Significance
The project addresses structural barriers in HRP care specific to rural Nepal and support Dhulikhel Hospital’s goal of expanding maternal healthcare to its outreach regions. My findings will generate insight into an antenatal care bundle with the potential to expand to other health centers and regions, guide further research, and even inform pregnancy care in other countries.
