NEPAL
Nepal is a new addition to our collaborating partners. Current ongoing projects that are accepting scholars and fellows include: the Dhulikhel Heart Study, a collaboration that seeks to understand risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the development of new devices for use in low-resource settings; treatment of trauma and burns; design activism and landscape architecture; water insecurity and indigenous peoples.
National Academy of Medical Sciences
The National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) has been established by the Government of Nepal to develop initially with the three major aims: 1. To produce trained manpower with the help of higher education in the field of medical sciences , 2. To make available high quality health service in Nepal and 3. To develop the academy as the national source center to conduct research studies in the field of medical sciences. 4. To expand the specialty health services and research in different parts of the country.
Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) is an institution established in collaboration between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. KUSMS launched its own constituent MBBS program in August 2001. The school has infrastructure and physical facilities at two locations: basic science building with all the required facilities is situated at a hilltop at Chaukot in the Panauti area and the university hospital is situated at Dhulikhel, within a distance of 3 km.
Dhulikhel Hospital is an independent, not for profit, non-government institution which was conceived and supported by the Dhulikhel community, as a quality health services provider. The Hospital is guided by the principles of social equity, sustainable development and harmony with nature. Through its trained staff, it provides cost effective, compassionate and quality health care services. The hospital believes in the fact that quality health services need not always be an expensive commodity and limited only to those who are rich enough to afford.
Nepal Cleft and Burn Center – Kirtipur Hospital
The Kirtipur Hospital is a communal hospital, run by the Nepalese Public Health Concern Trust (Phect Nepal) and Kirtipur Municipality. Affiliated is the “Nepal Cleft and Burn Center” for the treatment of cleft lip and palate, also known as an approved burn care center. Here, internationally renowned specialists work together with the Nepalese doctors.
