Research Project

Hypertension Prevention Program – An Effectiveness-Implementation Hybrid Study in Nepal

We propose to test the effectiveness of a peer-led multi-component lifestyle program to lower BP among pre-hypertensives in Nepal. It is expected that the multi-component lifestyle intervention will be more effective than targeting two or fewer lifestyle changes. We will conduct a hybrid effectiveness-implementation hybrid 1 study and use sequential explanatory mixed method to assess the effectiveness, measure success of implementation, and inform scalability of a peer-led multi-component lifestyle intervention.

Research Significance

The findings of the study will provide crucial data to the Government of Nepal that is currently seeking local-evidence on approaches to address CVD risk factors. In the long run, this experience will also lay the groundwork for developing a formal training program for researchers from both institutions in Global CVD and create a successful and sustainable model of engagement of Global Health academic community.
